Understanding The Construction, Protection, Operation And Maintenance Of Transformers
About This Course
INTRODUCTION
Transformers are vital components of electrical power systems. Their failure can affect, inter alia, the reliability, security and availability of electricity supply which could cause disruption to our daily life and impact on the economy. In addition, failure of a transformer can be costly because of the damage to the transformer itself and due to the consequence of such failure, it may lead to explosions, fire damage to property, personnel injury and fatality beside supply disruption as well as costly and time consuming legal proceedings in civil claims and regulatory action by the relevant authority. Therefore, it is important that transformers should be properly constructed, protected, operated and maintained to fulfill relevant requirements in order to withstand the electric, thermal and mechanical stresses during its service life.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This short course is structured to introduce participants to the basic principles on the construction, protection, operation and maintenance of transformers. The course is conducted through lectures and case studies to enable the participants to have a clear understanding of the principles and the associated utilisation issues. The course will also touch on legal and liability matters arising from transformer installation, operation and maintenance.
